Last year, the Alpha Delta Pi Foundation awarded more than $300,000 in academic scholarships to 157 Alpha Delta Pi members pursuing undergraduate, graduate, or continuing education studies. Keep reading to meet just a few of our 2022-2023 Foundation Scholarship recipients!
Jillian Gray, Zeta Sigma–College of Charleston
My name is Jillian Gray and I am a senior at the College of Charleston, majoring in Public Health with minors in Biology and Chemistry. I am a proud officer and member of the Zeta Sigma chapter of Alpha Delta Pi.
This past year, I was the recipient of the Virginia T. Cooney Undergraduate Scholarship. I was studying abroad in Geneva, Switzerland when I found out that I had won this prestigious award. It was an incredibly surreal moment to be so far away from home and still feel the love and support of my sisters. This scholarship has greatly enhanced my academic career, allowing me to continue to further my education at the College of Charleston. As a recipient of two other Foundation scholarships in past years, I am so incredibly grateful for the academic and financial support that the Alpha Delta Pi Foundation has provided me throughout my college career. I am truly blessed to be a part of a sisterhood that values scholarship and the importance of higher education.
I sadly only have a few more months left in the beautiful city of Charleston before I graduate. Upon graduating from the College of Charleston, I will be taking a gap year as I apply to medical school. It has been my lifelong dream to become a physician.
I would like to say thank you to the Alpha Delta Pi Foundation for supporting my academic goals and dreams and helping turn them into a reality. Alpha Delta Pi has truly been a rock for me through the best and most challenging times of my life. I would like to personally thank my chapter advisors for always believing in me even when I didn’t believe in myself, and my Zeta Sigma sisters for being amazing friends and inspiring me to strive to become the very best version of myself.
Elaine Zuo, Theta Tau–University of Pennsylvania
I’m Elaine Zuo, and I was a founding member of the Theta Tau chapter at the University of Pennsylvania. I graduated in 2014 with a bachelor’s in Economics and am now a first year MBA student at Columbia Business School. I was privileged to receive the Theta Tau Graduate Scholarship this school year.
I found out about Foundation scholarships when I was doing research on how to fund my graduate schooling and heard from a sister that another classmate of ours had received a graduate scholarship from the Foundation. I decided to apply after receiving the support from our former chapter advisor and other sisters from my chapter.
When I received word that I had received the scholarship, I was extremely delighted and grateful for my time in Alpha Delta Pi and the support the foundation provides to its alumnae. The financial assistance from the scholarship certainly was a blessing and lifted my mental burdens around attending school full-time.
I still have three semesters of business school left to go but am excited to announce that I’ve accepted an internship offer with Amazon for this summer as a Technical Product Manager. I plan to pursue a full-time position as a Product Manager upon graduation and continue my career in tech.
To those who have generously supported my Alpha Delta Pi Foundation Scholarship, I cannot express my thanks enough. My Alpha Delta Pi experience as well as my Foundation Scholarship experience have both been instrumental in the direction of my career and educational goals, and I hope to pay this forward in the future.
Daniella Reyes, Alpha Gamma–University of Missouri
My name is Daniella Reyes, and I am a member of the Alpha Gamma chapter at the University of Missouri. I am currently a fourth-year honors student at Mizzou studying psychology and communication and am also receiving a multicultural certificate. ADPi has been my largest network of support since coming to Mizzou. Being surrounded by driven and confident women has shaped me into someone I am extremely proud of.
I have been honored to receive the Donna Rae Pollen DeSando Scholarship and the Peggy Woods Vaughn Scholarship for the past two years from the Alpha Delta Pi Foundation. As a first-generation college student, these opportunities have had a significant impact on my education and my family. Receiving these scholarships lifted a huge weight from my shoulders for my final year of university. I will eternally be grateful for being involved in such a giving community and look forward to helping other women like me in the future.
When I graduate this May, I am looking to pursue a role in marketing or public relations in my beloved hometown of Chicago. I recently completed my term as the Vice President of Marketing and Communications for Mizzou’s Involvement Ambassadors, which is comprised of a group of students that seek to help connect others with campus resources and teach them the benefits of involvement. I also serve as a membership intern for the Page Society, a professional association for senior communications officers.
I could not have pursued my passions and extracurricular involvement at Mizzou without the support of the Alpha Delta Pi Foundation. To those who have made this possible for me, thank you for surrounding me with women who push me to try new things, form valuable connections, and be the best version of myself every single day. I sincerely am so appreciative of Alpha Delta Pi for extending me so many phenomenal opportunities like this one.
Michaela Stavropoulos, Zeta Lambda–Texas A&M University
I’m Michaela Stavropoulos, and I came home to the Zeta Lambda Chapter at Texas A&M University in 2018. After I completed my undergraduate degree in 2021, I applied to Texas A&M’s School of Veterinary Medicine and am ecstatic to say that I am now a part of the Class of 2026! This year I am the recipient of the Joan Reisch Boddie Scholarship.
I was overjoyed when I found out I received a Foundation scholarship. It truly meant a great deal to me as I have been warned time and time again by current veterinarians and by my current professors about the amount of debt I would be undertaking by pursuing my Doctor of Veterinary Medicine. Receiving a scholarship from the Foundation has helped alleviate some of the future stress that will come with loan repayment after graduation.
After I complete this spring semester in May, I will have three more years to go before I can call myself Dr. Stavropoulos (or Dr. Stav by my clients). At the moment, I am exploring different specialties through externships at different clinics and hospitals. I truly enjoy the environment of the ER, so I am considering pursuing additional training to become a board-certified emergency and critical care doctor for small animals.
I cannot be more thankful to the Foundation and those who funded my Foundation scholarship, and I hope one day I can do the same for others. Right now, I give what I can as a member of the Octavia Andrew Rush Young Alumnae Society, but I hope one day to be able to sponsor a scholarship with the Foundation.
There’s still time to apply for 2023-2024 Alpha Delta Pi Foundation Scholarships! Visit alphadeltapi.org/foundation/scholarships for more information, and submit your application by March 1.
